Economic efficiency of pharmaceutical industry enterprises

The pharmaceutical industry has significantly increased its production during the pandemic period. Such growth rates are determined by the fact that demand for medicines and related pharmaceutical products was many times higher than expected. As a result, the industry leaders not only increased production, but also quickly formed new directions for the market situation to combat the pandemic. It is expected that after the weakening of the epidemiological threat, pharmaceutical production in the country will stagnate. For the manufacturing segment of the pharmaceutical market, the prevailing market conditions can cause a decrease in revenue, profit and, consequently, business efficiency. The objects of the research were the largest pharmaceutical industry enterprises in terms of revenue, the methodology was based on a comparative analysis of performance indicators of selected enterprises. It was revealed that differentiation in the level of profitability remains between pharmaceutical enterprises, and the highest results were noted in those occupying only 7-9 positions in terms of revenue. Also, for most enterprises, a general trend towards a decrease in profitability is planned by 2023, which is largely due to the end of the pandemic and a decrease in demand for pharmaceutical products.
