Economic instruments of foreign policy within the neoliberal approach to the study of international relations

Бесплатный доступ

The article deals with the interpretation of economic instruments of pressure from the point of view of the neoliberal approach. Based on the theses of neoliberalism, the author explores the conceptualization of economic instruments as a product of the interdependence of the elements of the international system. A generalized description of economic instruments as an alternative to military force is given, substantiating the thesis that existing economic ties allow the states-subjects with the greatest potential for international influence to manipulate interdependence, taking advantage of the susceptibility and vulnerability of the states-objects. A view is also presented regarding the negative consequences for the welfare of not only the actors-parties, but also other states, when applying economic instruments.
