Economic reasons of the protest movement of educators in Irkutsk oblast during the transition to market relations, 1989-1991

The article investigates the origins of social protest in the education sector of Irkutsk Oblast in the late XX century. The author analyzes the economic background and the reasons of the protest, first protest activities and the role the local branch of the national trade union of educators played in them, as well as the results of the initial phase of the protest movement.
