In this paper the results of the tool steel 9XC surface modification via high power femtosecond laser pulses are presented. Conditions of obtaining the three types of surface structures namely periodic, uniform and highly porous are determined. It is shown that power and time of laser irradiation have an effect on the metal structure surface.
