Expletive elements in modern English

Бесплатный доступ

One of the most obvious manifestations of explication, typical of colloquial speech, is the presence of inserted words, called expletives. They occupy the intermediate position between parentheses and members of the sentence. Thus the problem of their linguistic status is open to discussion. There are also other urgent problems concerning expletives: translation into other- languages, their position in the system of degraded words, their functions in the process of communication.
