The elegiac model of A. Bertrand's and I. S. Turgenev's poems in prose

Бесплатный доступ

The article deals with the concept of poem in prose as a secondary literary genre derived from primary ones (elegy, ballad, parable, ecphrasis). For the cycles of A. Bertrand's Gaspard de la nuit and I.S. Turgenev's Senilia. Poems in prose, elegy is a dominant model conditioned, on the one hand, by the mental motive of reminiscence and, on the other, by the steadiness of the elegy repertoire. The poems in prose Chevremorte, Encore un printemps, and Le Deuxième homme by A. Bertrand and When I shan't be there and The Thrush I by I.S. Turgenev have been compared to the genre invariant of the elegy. The fixation of a uniquely individual episode of one's existence takes place within the space of one's memory (which is individual) as well as within the space of culture (which is a crosspoint of the individual and universal.)
