The article deals with the issue of electrification of urban infrastructure in the Soviet Far East in the 1920s and 1930s. The author suggests that the electrification of the Far Eastern cities was constrained by the limited access of the local authorities to financial and material resources, by the low level of development of the municipal power engineering, and rapid industrial construction. Despite all the difficulties, the number of electricity users in the Far Eastern cities grew steadily, public transport developed, public lighting improved, and the cultural level of the Soviet Far East gradually increased.
