Electrokinetic activity of buccal epithelial cells in patients with hypertension

The aim of the study was to examine electrokinetic activity of buccal epithelial cell nuclei in patients with hypertension. The experimental approach was based on the method of intracellular microelectrophoresis introduced by V.G. Shahbasov et al. The study included 22 hypertensive patients and 23 healthy control subjects. Mean age was 60.55±1.91 in patients with hypertension and 60.78±2.44 in control group. The study showed that hypertensive patients had significantly lower electrokinetic activity of buccal epithelial cell nuclei in comparison with control group suggesting that changes in this parameter seen in hypertensive patients indirectly reflect functional state of the organism.
