An electrostatic focusing effect in the gas dynamical interface of the mass spectrometer

There are two basic factors that influence ion movement in gas-dynamical interfaces of the mass spectrometer. They are the field of the gas flow and the electrical field of the electrodes of the interface. The traditional interfacial scheme "nozzle-skimmer" is optimized with the help of an additional diaphragm in front of the skimmer. A number of experiments were done to estimate the electrostatic focusing effect, transmission and the effect of the gas jet in the optimized interface.
