Insurance Fund of the Chernigov Diocese Clergy (1880–1917)

The financial situation of parish clergy is a key issue facing researchers of the synodal period in the Russian Orthodox Church history. It concerns many aspects, one of which is the problem of pensions for parish clergy. It should be noted that the solution of the issue by the state could not satisfy the clergy. Therefore, many of them tried to ensure both their future and the future of their families in the event of death: this is how insurance funds or mutual aid funds appeared. Such an undertaking was supported and promoted by ruling bishops in various dioceses. This article examines the activities of the insurance fund of the Chernigov diocese clergy in the period from its establishment to 1917.
