Migration is a complex and multidimensional social process that affects every dimension of society. This article reveals challenges in the empirical study of migration processes concerning the choice and implementation of research methods. The author identifies the most promising ways to respond to such challenges. They include the analysis of social inclusion and social exclusion of migrants and their children (second and third generation) in everyday life. Special attention should be given to understanding the new forms of transnational migration, social involvement/citizenship. This paper proposes to focus on the methods of transnational behaviour analysis, particularly in cyberspace, as well as the “soft” data collection techniques.
