Introduction: the article is devoted to assessing the current state and prospects of international cooperation in the energy sector (using the example of the nuclear industry), as well as the impact of this cooperation on Russia’s place in the new system of global economic relations. Investments into construction of nuclear power plants are growing in the wake of the green agenda and the desire for low-carbon generation, while at the same time it is impossible to ensure sustainable energy supply from other sources. The article analyzes the current problems, challenges and the level of competitiveness of Rosatom State Corporation in various markets. Objectives: to develop scientific ideas about the impact of international sectoral cooperation, namely cooperation in the nuclear industry, on the specifics of Russian economy integration into the global economic relations system, as well as to assess possible prospects for expanding the export potential of nuclear energy. Methods: a systematic approach, statistical data analysis, deductive method and comparison method. Results: the analysis of joint projects has shown that the most efficient is the energy cooperation between Russia and China. The author offers forecasts that consider the main advantages and risks of international cooperation, the specifics of global energy markets, and initiatives taken by all actors in the process of transforming the system of global economic relations. Conclusions: the importance of nuclear energy in the global energy complex, especially against the background of rising prices for fossil energy resources, is rising significantly and has an impact on the socio-economic development of Russia, while at the same time being an instrument of political dominance. The technological advantage in the nuclear industry ensures Russia’s competitiveness in the context of creating a new world order based on mutually beneficial economic relations between sovereign states and the rules of the United Nations.
