Energy efficiency and conservation as factors of competitiveness of the economy of the northern border region (on the example of the Republic of Karelia)

Energy conservation is the highest priority of state energy policy. High rate of development of the Russian economy requires a significant increase of energy, but cheaper and greener to save energy than to build new power plants. The article compares the energy consumption of Finland and Republic of Karelia. The authors reveal regional energy problems, lead to the classification of regions and measures to improve energy efficiency. Developed and proposed measures to improve the situation in the energy sector of the Republic of Karelia.
