Epidemiology of anemia in young children

Despite the modern possibilities of diagnosis and treatment, anemic syndrome does not decrease in the population, including in childhood. Moreover, anemia is often a non-specific symptom, and can be a manifestation of various pathologies. Among children, anemia may be the only and early sign of a chronic disease. Objective: to determine the prevalence of anemia, the relationship between the anemic syndrome in young children and their underlying and concomitant diseases, the nature of nutrition. Under observation were 44 children aged 1,1 years (1 month to 2.5 years) who were hospitalized in the pediatric department in Belgorod. Anemic syndrome was detected in 50% of children. Moreover, 45,5 % have mild anemia, 36 % - moderate severity 18,5% - severe. Urinary tract infection was detected in 14%, acute pyelonephritis 14%, respiratory syncytial infection 28%; and 44% of children with iron deficiency anemia here have functional digestive tract disorders.
