Modern study of epistemic modality involves the interaction of the methods of semantic analysis and the philosophical approach, since each epistemic experience summarizes different forms of axiological reflective thinking of the speaker expressed through the semiotic elements of language. Scientific study of religious discourse is currently concentrated on descriptive theology, while mystical discourses usually are not explored. This article continues the study of discursive specificity of apophatic theology and considers the semiotic features of different modalities. Also the author analyzes markers of modalities and their correlation with intention statements. As illustrations and examples, the author resorts to different excerpts from the texts by Dionysius the Areopagite.
