The article analyzes the generation theory presented in the works of a number of Western scholars, such as K. Mannheim, S. Lipset, L. Feuer, J. Mandel, N. Howe and W. Strauss. It reveals a significant role of generational markers, which according to the authors is a tool to identify cycles of generational change of elites.
