Ethnic border: Russians and Ukrainians in Kabardino-Balkaria

In the article the Russian-Ukrainian ethnic border in Kabardino-Balkaria is investigated. The conclusion is drawn on variability of the ethnic border as a result of which thousands of Ukrainians turned into Russians. The important role in this process was played by the policy of the Soviet state which declared descendants of the Ukrainian immigrants in the North Caucasus Russian. The proximity of the language and culture of the East Slavic people also promoted instability of borders dividing them.
