Ethnic identification of modern Buryat youth (on materials of the Republic of Buryatia)

The article gives characteristic of ethnic identification, such concepts as «ethnic and national identity», «ethnos» and «nation» are revealed, the relationship of these concepts with each other is determined. The features that youth identify themselves with their ethnic group are also discussed. A person recognizes his ethnicity in the process of socialization. This process is the assimilation of values, the formation of national identity by an individual. The author notes that the determining factors are the area of residence, language, religion, traditions, etc.; in most cases the person consider himself to the ethnic group which the parents belong to. The ethnic identification is a psychological process of identification of the individual himself with the ethnic community, which allows him to acquire the necessary stereotypes of behavior, lifestyle norms and values.
