The authors address the main ethnodemographic trends in the regions of the Siberian Federal District (SFD). The SFD includes 10 regions; the relevant regional indicators are compared. The authors based on the data of population censuses and up-to-date statistical information presented on the websites of regional departments of the Federal State Statistics Service as the main source. The demographic situation in Russia is characterized by a decrease in the population, a low birth rate, an aging population and an increase in the demographic asymmetry between the European and Asian parts. Most of these trends are ethnically specific. The population of the SFD is declining due to interregional migration and a low birth rate. Both of these reasons have ethnic characteristics and differ among the peoples living in Siberia. Russians making up the vast majority of the population dominate in interregional migrations. The Russian population shows the lowest birth rate among the peoples living in the Siberian Federal District. In general, a fairly stable ethnic composition of the population has been noted in the Republics of Altai and Khakassia, where the ratio of the main ethnic groups has not changed over the latest few decades. The demographic situation in the Republic of Tuva is different from that in other regions of the SFD including national regions. The population in the republic has been growing steadily throughout the post-Soviet period. Tuvians show a high total fertility rate, providing a stable demographic situation. Migrations demonstrate a pronounced ethnic character; mainly Russians leave Tuva; the Russian population size has decreased significantly. The Republic of Tuva is becoming more mono-ethnic.
