Based on archival materials the article focuses on the story of ethnographic film «Tumgu» (1931) directed by A.A. Litvinov as a multilayered document of visual anthropology. The author examines the features of the film narrative about the evolution of the Koryak ethnic community of Kamchatka during the period of cultural and economic transformations in the USSR at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s in the context of the specifics of Soviet film production and in connection with parallel processes in the Soviet national-cultural policy.
