Ethnic musical traditions in the multilevel structure of Dagestan peoples’ identity

Ethnic musical traditions play a special role in the multilevel structure of Dagestan peoples’ identity. The core of the Dagestan autochthones’ musical culture is a rhythm (temporal musical factor) and intonation (pitch factor), determining strength of the instrumental and dance traditions. The instrumental music of the Dagestan autochthones keeps canon - tradition, while vocal music area is a field for innovations, mostly in the context of multiethnic musical interactions.
