The article deals with development of the ethnic national movements in the North Caucasus of the Russian Federation and their place in the regional political process. The author recounts the formation of the national movements, distinguishes the stages of the political activity of the various ethnic actors during the post-Soviet period and reveals their specific features. It is substantiated the need for the consideration of the specific role of the ethnic and religious factors when managing the regional political process in the North Caucasus.
