The article deals with the unofficial German ethnonyms Ösi and Piefke, representing the national nicknames of the Austrians and Germans respectively. The author compares their contextual use in the modern journalistic discourse in Austria and Germany. The implementation of their dictionary meanings and definitions is analyzed.
