The article deals with the evolution of armored fighting vehicles of the USA and Russia during 1970-1980s, the period considered to be the Second Cold War. Regional conflicts of this period performed the functions of the previous years' war campaigns, and were the testing areas for developing sophisticated armory in the conditions oriented on the real straight war collision between the USSR and the USA.
