Early mosques were simple buildings without artistic design. After several decades and under the influence of a civilization and newly appeared technologies, there appeared the architectural jewelry. In Islamic culture, according to the sacred writings - the Koran (surah 22, the ayah 73), it is forbidden for artists to create humanlike images therefore they had to pay their attention to abstract forms. During the early Islamic period in Baghdad there was a broad prosperity of knowledge in the field of mathematics that has led to distribution of Islamic geometrical art. It could be connected with significant growth in science and technology in the Middle East, Iran and Central Asia in the 8-9th centuries. Similar progress probably has been caused by the translations of ancient texts from Greek and Sanskrit. To X - century, the Muslim contribution to science became very considerable. In Islamic science the earliest written document in geometry has appeared in the 9th century which author was Horezmi. Thus, the history of Islamic geometrical ornaments is equal to nearly three centuries, from the moment of emergence of Islam - at the beginning of the 7th century, until the end of the 9th century.
