The article presents a review of linguistic studies of polysemy. It covers different approaches towards the nature of polysemy proposed by foreign and Russian linguistic schools. The article presents the results of classification of polysemous medical terms. The authors aim at illustrating theoretical conclusions with examples of terminological polysemy from medical terminology.
