Evolution of models of pain: on the way to the development of psychology of pain

The work considers the evolution of various models of the phenomenon of pain. Models are considered within the continuum of their physiological or psychological orientation, where the main criteria of classification is the measure of the coverage of various manifestations of pain, as well as the scope and role of psychological content in the experience of pain. Models and theories are analyzed in order of their historical origin. The analysis concludes with conclusions on the understanding of the nature of pain, its relation to mental content, as well as the option of interpreting its categorical status as a phenomenon of the psyche.
