Introduction: over the past years, many domestic scientists have made their contribution to the development of forensic science, but a prominent representative of the Soviet and Russian forensic school, the coryphaeus of forensic science is the Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Major General police, a participant in the Great Patriotic War Rafail Samuilovich Belkin. 11 july 2022 the 100th anniversary of his birth is celebrated. Materials and methods: the methodological basis of the study is the dialectical method of scientific knowledge, as well as the systematic method of cognition of forensic laws. In addition, the author used other general scientific methods in the process of research: analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, comparative legal, description, generalization, etc. The results of the study made it possible to determine that the role and significance of the scientific achievements of a respected scientist in the formation and development of forensic science is beyond doubt, since their conceptuality is obvious and substantiated in numerous works of both domestic and foreign criminologists. Everyone who received a higher legal education and studied forensic science, and, of course, who in one way or another in the scientific field is related to the sciences of the criminal law cycle, could not but use the works of R. S. Belkin, and above all, this applies to dissertation research. Findings and conclusions: the article is a brief analysis of the well-known scientific work of R. S. Belkin "Criminalistics: Problems of Today" 2001 in the context of the relevance of the thought of the Great criminologist to the modern realities of scientific support for the activities of law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
