On the 130th anniversary of the publication of the journal of the brotherhood of St. Basil, bishop of Ryazan, “Missionary collection”

In 2021, the 130th anniversary of the publication of the journal of the Brotherhood of St. Basil, Bishop of Ryazan, “Missionary Collection”, was celebrated. Unfortunately, the Revolution and subsequent events interrupted the missionary work of the Brotherhood, and with it the printing of this wonderful periodical. To some extent, it helped regulate the work of the missionaries of the Brotherhood. “Missionary Collection” was not only the mouthpiece of the official doctrine of the Brotherhood Council, but also became a platform for freely expressing the problems and shortcomings of missionary activity. The periodicity of the journal was originally six issues per year, and since 1910 it began to be published monthly. The authors of the collection could be not only members of the Brotherhood, but also any active clergy and laity. For example, one of the founders and authors of the journal was Pyotr Semenovich Smirnov, an outstanding scholar, honored worker of the Russian Church, an expert of the Old Believers. The article is written on the basis of unpublished and published archival sources, some of which are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
