Yakutia is located in the north-eastern part of Siberia. It is the largest administrative unit in the world (3103,2 thousands km 2), a region with a high level of natural resources and economic potential. The Soviet period of the regional history is associated to its large-scale development. Systematic consistent study of the history of Yakutia started, when A.P. Okladnikov had published his generalizing monographs. His main research fell within the hard times for our Homeland: it was the time of The Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). By that time, he was already prominent scientist: candidate of science, author of a number of discoveries in Siberia and Central Asia. He received an invitation from the Institute of Culture of the CPC YASSR to carry out the archaeological research in the Lena River Valley in 1939, and he inextricably associated his fate with the discovery of Yakutia for the people for the next six years. The task - to write the history of this region - had been completely accomplished. Researches of academician A.P. Okladnikov were appreciated by both the government and the scientific community. He was decorated with the medal “For valiant Labour”, two Badges of Honour, and his concepts are still the subject of discussions in the scientific world.
