On methodology of historical cognition

The author has analyzed the existing methodological approaches to the study of domestic and world history. A hypothesis on the Far Eastern sub-civilization, as a constituent part of the Russian civilization, has been put forward. Within the framework of the formational approach the author considers it to be possible to subdivide the society development into pre-industrial and industrial periods, instead of before-and postindustrial ones.
