The functioning of the words-katoikonyms in the media

Onomasiological approach to language makes it possible to become acquainted not only the phenomena of lexical synonyms, but grammatical and word-formation synonymous, to show the relationship of different levels of language units, teach to use this or that means properly. The use of onomasiological lexicon, particularly words-katoikonyms in the media, repeatedly became the reason of controversial issues relating to the use of one or the other word-katoikonym. The goal of our work is to consider the mechanism of onomasiological approach`s application on the example of thematic group «name of the person in the community». The typology presented in the article makes it possible to show how the different linguistic means can convey the same meaning; to compare the spoken language with the language of books; to see the stylistic differences between different types of names of persons in the community.
