In the current paper strategies used in fiction are studied. They are considered on the material of different types of discourse but unfortunately in contemporary science literary discourse has not been given particular attention to. Literary discourse has its own particular features which distinguish it from non-literary discourse. In the few works devoted to the strategies in literary texts different classifications of strategies are founded. Regardless of the type of the text local/auxiliary/private and main/global/common strategies are distinguished. They are hierarchically subordinate to the overall communication strategy of the author and contribute to its implementation. We understand the communication strategy as the plan of speech acts and its implementation for achievement of the communicative purpose of the author of the text which is in the impact on worldview and value system of the reader. We think the implementation of the plan in a literary text is realized by text/discourse strategies under which we mean a series of tactics and techniques used by the author for programming the reader ’s perception of the main idea of the work, the author's picture of the world and the author's intentions. The analysis of literary texts has shown that strategies depend on the genre and the type of the text.
