On communicative strategies in printed media

The paper considers one of the communication strategies used by printed mass media, namely, spreading information via a system of hearsay. The author maintains that this strategy is in compliance with the expectations of the mainstream audience. Through hearsay periodicals reflect and impose particular opinions. Thus hearsay becomes important for the printed media as it serves as a compensation for the blatant deficiency of those periodicals in the eyes of the readership.
