On the basis of archaeometallographic data, the conclusion has been reachedthat in the history of iron industry in the Minusinsk depression two innovations wereof key importance. The first (5th-3rd centuries BC) was the appearance of iron artefactsimported by a newly arrived population. This, however, had not provided an impetus forthe emergence of independent local iron-working. The second factor (2nd century BC - 1stcentury AD) marks the beginning of local iron production under the influence of craftsmenarriving from outside, who introduced their experience of the production and processingof ferrous metal
