On interaction of literature and folklore in Charles Chesnutt’s collection of short stories “Conjure Woman”

The article analyzes Charles W. Chesnutt’s stories “Conjure Woman” regarding the writer’s approach to poetic reception of folklore. The context of Afro-American literary traditions is taken into account. It seeks to determine main functions of folklore elements in his short stories. Folklore components of Chesnutt’s short stories are examined in their essential structural and substantial functions.
