On reconstruction of Byzantine conception of death. The name of Charon in the context of folklore thanatology

The article highlights the results of reconstruction of Byzantine folk conception of death. Folklore components of image Charon are considered to be fundamental, but existing simultaneously with both pagan and Christian official mythological notions.
