On the semantics of Russian dialectal verbs стювать, щувать, счувать

The article studies the group of kindred dialectal verbs стювать, счувать, щувать demonstrating a wide geography but absent from the literary Russian language. The aforementioned verbs and their derivatives have not been semantically placed so far, and do not possess a universally accepted etymology. The article puts forward an overview of etymologies of the verbs in question and analyzes their meanings, i.e. to reason, convince, impel to something, tyrannize, and stop in the street.
