To the questions of digitalization of the economy

The article attempts to study the definitions of the digital economy, some of them are given. Historical information about the emergence of this concept is given, “pioneer authors” (R. Vakhalovi, D. Tapscott, N. Negroponte) are indicated, who were the first to introduce it into our everyday life. The main components of the digital economy are distinguished from the point of view of the researcher T. Mesenburg. The speed of distribution, the degree and extent of the application of digital technologies is noted. In this connection, the need for acquiring skills and abilities in the field of finding information using modern methods, determining its reliability and relevance is increasing. An assumption is made about the difference in the concepts of digital economy and Internet economy. It is indicated that the concept of digital economy is broader. It is reflected that the use of digital technologies has dual trends, which are multidirectional in nature and create both opportunities and threats. It is noted that without the participation of the state, it is impossible to regulate the activities of market participants. Examples of state participation in supporting the development of the digital economy in Russia in the current period of time are given, the President of Russia on the priorities of the development of science and legislation in the field of digitalization is given. The economic meaning of digitalization is revealed. Conclusions are made based on research results.
