This article is devoted to fantasy and fiction specifics illustrated with novels “Messiah cleans the disk” by H.L.Oldie and “The boy and the darkness” by S.Lukianenko. Both genres are defined, their key differences are analyzed and the necessity to explore them as two independent literary phenomenon is substantiated.
