On the question of urban environment formation at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries

The article considers the problem of social environment formation in Yaroslavl at the end of the 19th - the beginning of the 20th century. The main purpose of the investigation is to characterise properly the established social environment. It came to light that the main composing features of the new social environment appeared to be the following: comfortable living conditions, proper activity of both the Municipal Duma and common citizens in the course of the urban space transformation. The appearance of the new standard of the town dweller, who was ready to analyse all the deficiencies of the environment and striving for their liquidation by the legal means has been of great significance.
