Poisonous snakes of Western Kazakhstan and their bites

The article examines the species composition and distribution of venomous snakes in Western Kazakhstan. Harm human and animals health can make the bite of the Gloydius caraganus (Eichwald, 1831) and Vipera renardi (Christoph, 1861). During field work from April to May 2024, habitats of these species were identified in the West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions. The official statistics of bites for 2023 are provided. The first reliable information on the consequences of a G. caraganus bite on a person was obtained.
