At the end of the XIXth century Siberia became engaged in the world market. The British began importing their products to Siberia via the Northern Sea Route (NSR) opened in 1874. These trade operations would continue up to 1899. Initially they could not influence the Siberian economics a lot due to the opposition of Russian middle class, who in the beginning initiated the opening of a sea route via Kara Sea to Siberia.
