To the issue of dormant types of punishments in the criminal legislation of the Russian Federation

Purpose: Analysis of the condition of dormant types of criminal penalties in the system of punishments, their significance for criminal legislation and practice of its application, and the formulation of suggestions for solving the related problem. Methodology: Method of analysis, historical-legal and formal-legal methods were used in the article. Results: The article examines such dormant types of punishments as arrest and capital punishment and analyses their significance and ambiguous effect on the system of punishments and criminal legislation in general, on account of which suggestions were made to improve the Criminal Code of the Russian Fede-ration. Novelty/originality/value: The article has a certain scientific value, as it analyses the issue of dormant types of punishments and contains suggestions for its solution.
