This article discusses the reasons of the polemic between St. Ignatius Bryanchaninov and St. Theophane Govorov about the nature of souls and angels. The author considers the concept of the ether in the theology of Ignatius Brianchaninov, specificity of theological views of the polemic participants and how they interpreted the sources they used.
