Concerning the issue of Greben and Terek Cossacks settlement in the North Caucasus in the 16th century

The article highlights several aspects of the settlement of Greben and Terek Cossacks in the Terek-Sunzha basin. In the 16th century, the Russian government with the help of the Terek and Greben Cossacks began to create the first in the history of the North Caucasus fortified line between the rivers Terek and Sunzha. The author identifies that based on military cooperation and mutual economic interest it has been formed the good neighbourship between the settlers, the Terek and Greben peoples, and the representatives of the North Caucasian peoples.
