The necessary defense is a natural right to self-preservation, proceeding from the need of a person to protect oneself from danger. In this article, the author considers the content and law enforcement features of the criteria for the legitimacy of the institution of necessary defense. The analysis deals with the problems of the realization of the right to necessary defense and the difficulties of proper legal assessment.
