On the question of ways to improve the performance of engine oils

Бесплатный доступ

Ensuring the reliable functioning of mobile power facilities is impossible without the use of fuels and lubricants with certain operational properties. The main ways to improve the performance properties of commercial motor oils are: the introduction of additives into the base composition of the composition, ultrasonic treatment of the lubricant, magnetic treatment of motor oil with additives, treatment of oils with ionizing radiation. The individual advantages and disadvantages of these methods for improving complex properties are presented. The influence of gamma radiation on the physicochemical and operational properties of mineral motor oil with metal-containing additives is considered. The effect of low and high radiation doses on the viscosity and base number of engine oil, surface tension, electrical conductivity, detergent, antiwear, extreme pressure and antifriction properties has been established. A description of the cause-and-effect relationships of changes in the indicated operational properties is given. The optimal dose of engine oil irradiation was revealed, which is 2 krad., At which there is an increase in electrical conductivity, antiwear, extreme pressure and antifriction properties, as well as a decrease in surface tension. At the same time, individual physicochemical indicators such as base number and viscosity remain practically unchanged.
