On the development of relations between the state and non-traditional religious organizations

The article addresses the phenomenon of non-traditional religious organizations. We have substantiated the advisability of using this term in contrast to the term "new religious movements". Non-traditional religions affirm ideas and practices that are alien to traditional religions, which have a long history in a certain territory. The peculiarities of relations between state institutions and non-traditional religious organizations result from the weakness of legislation in the religious sphere at the initial stage of penetration of these religions into Russian society. We have identified several periods of the development of relations between the state and non-traditional religious organizations and the features of each period, linking them not only with socio-cultural conditions, but also with the formation of legislative framework. It is noted that the state pursue a policy of curtailing the influence of non-traditional religions.
