To the question of the genre status of “The explanatory dictionary of the living great Russian language” by V.I. Dal

The article is devoted to the specification of genre characteristics of “Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language” by V.I. Dahl not so much as a of linguistic one, but as a linguocultural encyclopedic dictionary, which allows to determine the true significance of Dahl’s work in the history of Russian lexicography and culture, to reveal the true measure of its content and possibilities of use.
